Achi, the mascot for the popular Solana-based memecoin dogwifhat ($WIF), has been auctioned on the Foundation Marketplace for 1,210.759 ETH ($4.3 million).
The auction saw fervent bidding activity that took place three days following the announcement of its South Korean owner which resulted in the sale to Gigantic Rebirth Ventures.
The NFT listing included a description that read; “The photo of Achi wearing a small hat instantly took the internet by storm, and now it has captured the hearts of people around the globe as a meme called $WIF.”
What is $WIF?
$WIF is a Solana-based memecoin created in November 2023.
It has gained massive popularity as Solana-based memecoins took off at the start of this year, and has seen renewed popularity in recent weeks as Solana tokens have once again hit the spotlight.
At the time of writing, $WIF has a market cap of over $2 billion USD, with 1 $WIF token equal to US $2.05.
$WIF Mascot Sparks Surge in Token Value
The NFT features the original photo of Achi, a Shiba Inu adorned with a pink wool hat, that is the mascot and inspiration behind $WIF.
Although the memecoin project is built on Solana, the auction took place on Ethereum via Foundation in partnership with Fiesty DAO.
Following news of the auction, the WIF token experienced significant growth, representing a 30% increase in 24 hours – making $WIF the fourth largest memecoin across all chains.
